Dec 14, 2017-The fifteenth edition of Nepal’s premier mountain film festival, Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival, is slated to open on Thursday, Dec 14, at QFX Kumari, in Kamalpokhari. This edition of the fest will feature around 80 films from 37 countries.
The Last Honey Hunter, the award-winning film which documents the life of Mauli Dhan Rai and the dying profession of harvesting wild honey, will open the fest.
The first day of the fest will see the screening of six more films: Sherpa Stew, about the Sherpa mountaineers residing in New York and their quest for a better life; The Islands and the Whales, about the whale-hunters of Faroe Islands; Boys in the Bugs, about crack climbers in Bugaboo Mountains in Canada; Reach Your Limits, about one Bulgarian sprinter’s run to cross the country’s longest mountain route; Jha Lo (Year of the Bird), about the inner conflicts in a monk family; and Tom, about Alpinist Tom Ballard who scales six North Faces in the Alps in a single winter.
Alongside film screenings, the festival will also host a Live Doc Pitch, which will feature a panel comprising Cristina Ljungberg, Kesang Tseten, Rosie Garthwaite, Subina Shrestha, and Mike Day; a documentary filmmaking masterclass with Mike Day; and a presentation on the specifics of documentary filmmaking with Reena Mohan.
The fest will run through December 18.
