Dec 14, 2017-Shades of Hues, an art exhibition featuring works representing various Nepali and Indian art traditions, is currently on at Nepal Art Council.
Curated by a seasoned Indian curator Amrita Prakash, the exhibit has on display art works by 22 artists in total, which are representative of various styles and themes that is prevalent in the countries.
Nepali artists Jitendra Lama and Rebika Shakya’s work, including a few other Indian artists’, had a realist depiction of everyday life. On the other hand, there were paintings
that rendered Hindu mythologies and the life of women that has remained unaltered through the ages.
There were other works like Prabhinder Lall’s Vanishing Green and Nagendra Prasad Paudyal’s Compostition A, illustrating the growing abstractionism movement in South Asia.
Apart from the works that reflected the different art movements which is thriving in Nepal and India, the paintings were also notable for their use of a wide range of mediums. Acrylic, Oil, and Watercolor on Canvas are mediums that Nepali audience are used to, but the use of mixed media, and etching might provide a new flavour to Kathmandu’s audience. The experiment with different mediums, subjects and materials, according to curator Prakash, provides uniqueness to the show, and the different ideas, philosophies, thoughts, and perspectives make the exhibition a space for interaction between multiple points of view.
The exhibition will conclude on December 14.
